The art of making candles is an interesting study and this family-run company is owned by the original Mom and Pop candle-makers. It has occupied a good portion of
their time these last few years, but through trial and error they have created quite a collection of
recipes for the perfect candles.

We are Wayne and Jeanne Berry of "A Berry Patch Farm." Our USDA organic farm is nestled on four acres in the mountains of West Jefferson, North Carolina. We have grown organic fruits, herbs and vegetables for over 35 years. Wayne enjoys beekeeping and the abundant jars of 100% RAW Honey and the tubs of Creamed Honey are the rewards of the late summer harvests.
Big Horse Creek Farm is a small family-owned and operated orchard and nursery located in the remote high mountains of Ashe County, North Carolina. Ron and Suzanne Joyner specialize in the collection and propagation of antique and heirloom apple varieties of the Appalachian Mountains as well as many other apple varieties of the world. We seek to preserve these old varieties in the hope that others may appreciate the incredible diversity of apples that once was a part of the cultural heritage of the Appalachian region.
They specialize in worm castings, red worms, and cocoons. At our market they also offer produce and through New River Organic Growers (NROG).
John and Laura are part of our craft vendors and
sell a variety of items like wooden crafts, artwork, and barn quilts.
Cheryl is a Fiber Artist living in the Appalachian Mountains. She uses many different materials like wool, silk, and cotton in her knitting, rug hooking, weaving, and spinning

Welcome to the Domske Farm in Ashe County, North Carolina. The Domske Farm encompasses over 100 acres of fields and woods that lie along the banks of the New River. A small portion of the farm is cultivated with a market garden, pastures, an orchard and a pick-your-own berry patch. Most of the farm's acreage is home to an abundance of wildlife such as Eastern Wild Turkeys, Whitetail Deer, Red Foxes, bobcats and black bears to name a few. They sell their home grown produce at the Ashe County Farmer's Market in West Jefferson from April-October.
Cheryl Williams founded Grassy Creek Pottery in 1998 upon moving to the mountains of North Carolina. Cheryl joined together with a number of artists in Ashe County, and they founded the county’s first cooperative gallery. For eight years the gallery was a large part of her pottery life. She has since branched out in other directions. Cheryl is now a valued member of our market where where she sells her amazing artwork.
Heritage Homestead Goat Dairy is nestled on 17 acres in the mountains of Ashe County just outside of Jefferson, North Carolina. Carol and Lon Coulter purchased the old Florence Kelly home place in 1994, which had been a working cow dairy until the early 70s. To help clear the briars and brambles that had taken over the farm, the Coulters purchased goats. One thing led to another and soon enough Carol was milking goats and taking cheese classes. For the last 6 years the Coulters have worked toward becoming a licensed dairy and in January of 2009 Heritage Homestead was licensed.
Joe specializes in custom made rustic, hardwood furniture: stools, tables, nightstands, trashcans. You will find turkeys, owls and reindeer made from natural products. Joe is proud of his homemade cow hoof mandolin picks! We take orders for small, medium, large, x large and giant reindeer. The reindeer may be taken apart for storage.
Pond Mountain Farm and Forge offers both produce and crafts at our market with a variety of nursery crops, vegetables, herbs, and tin crafts.

Angela's grandma taught her how to crochet when she was about 6 years old or so. She started selling her crochet at our market 3 years ago. Angela usually doesn't use a pattern and just makes up her designs as she crochets along, letting the yarn tell her what it wants to be. Along with her crafts, Angela also sells a variety of different produce items
Holding with the theories of Perma-culture and animal powered organic agriculture practices predicated by the Small Farmer’s Journal, Mountain Works Farms is currently housed at Appalachian State University’s Sustainable Development Farm and the adjoining Episcopal Conference Center in Valle Crucis, NC as well as our recently leased small holding on the corner of Idlewild Rd. and US-221 in Fleetwood, NC. This spring we took on a small garden plot just down the road from the house we are care-taking in the Aho community and this fall we have begun managing a 60 acre farm in Todd, NC for forage and forest products.

Summit Support Services of Ashe is dedicated to serving adults with developmental disabilities by providing a comprehensive range of opportunities which encourages the intellectual, social, emotional, physical and spiritual growth of all those involved with the organization. Marni Saunders (from Summit Support) has found her niche with her micro business called "Simple Pleasures Soaps". She and Kaye, a dedicated Summit employee, have developed a line of soaps that is clearly helping people stay clean. Kaye and Marni put a lot of time and energy in creating quality products. And their efforts have paid off! On any given Wednesday at our market you could find Marni selling her wares.

Both Steve and Karen came from the pharmaceutical industry and have spent most of their corporate careers in North Carolina. They were blessed to have the jobs they had and a few years ago they left their “comfort zone” and headed to the mountains of North Carolina. Here they have learned so much about living off the land, caring for large animals and accepting that their bodies aren’t getting any younger.
